This year, SCSYSL is experimenting with a U16 Division. While we have had some parents ask about it, we haven’t heard enough to guarantee anything; which is why it is experimental. We have not found a set day/time for this, but we are thinking it will happen on Sunday’s from 4:30-5:45pm.
For its inaugural season, the U16 division will be run more like scrimmages and cost $50. For that price, your player will receive the league’s insurance, play on lined fields, and ensure an adult is always there. There will be 8 sessions. Here is how it will work, players will show up to a field, teams will be picked, SCSYSL will provide bibs to be worn to tell each other apart, and a game will ensue; kind of like the playground when we were all younger. Our Vice President and/or Director of Coaches will be on-site at every scrimmage to make sure everyone is playing fair and to the laws of the game. This will be more of a self-coaching and coaching each other than our other divisions. If there is enough interest, this may change after this first season.
In the event that there is not enough registrations, we will back fill the registration with currently registered U14 players (2009 birth years) and, if necessary, move from playing on the U14 field to a smaller field. This means games could be played at Kyte, Gaffke, or Masonic Heights Elementary. This is not going to be a division for players currently playing high school or travel ball and is strictly for those that wish to continue playing with their friends or get their feet on the ball in the off season.
